A night out in Rome/11

Above the elliptical colonnade which surrounds St. Peter's Square, there are 162 statues, one for each column, of saints symbolizing the «ecclesia triunphans» in regard to the «ecclesia militans», id est the faithful crowd praying in the sqaure.

A night out in Rome/10

St. Peter's Basilica lodges one of Michelangelo's masterpieces: Pietà. Nowadays only a copy of the original sculpure is publicly exposed since many damages occurred during years, the most substantial of which on May 21, 1972 (Pentecost Sunday) when a mentally disturbed geologist named Laszlo Toth walked into the chapel and attacked the Virgin with a hammer while shouting "I am Jesus Christ."

A night out in Rome/9

In the centre of the picture of the previous post, there's the Triumph of the Chair of Saint Peter (1666) by Bernini, topped by a yellow window with the image of a dove, portraying the Holy Spirit and surrounded by twelve rays, symbolising the apostles.

A night out in Rome/8

Here we're inside the St. Peter's Basilica. In the distance you can see the main altar, over which stands a 30 metres (98 ft) tall baldachin.

I like the iced colors of this shot, taken from the same position of the previous post, only earlier.

A night out in Rome/5

One of the statues on St. Peter's Square is pointedly in honor of Saint Peter. As you can notice, he's holding the keys to the kingdom of heaven.

Boston sightseeings/6

This is another of the old pictures taken in Boston. Even if it didn't take too much thinking about the subject or the cut of the shot, the result was really interesting to me.

Boston sightseeings/5

I was looking at the shots taken in Boston early this year with the old camera and I must say that some of them are not bad at all. Next month I'll be in Boston again and I must prove that the new camera worth the value...

Rome by Promenade/4

Comparing this shot with the one I took last year, is clearly visible that I get a better light, and a better camera :-).

Rome by Promenade/3

As every year since my son came to life, we use to spend the 8th of December, holy day for the Immacolata Concezione, in Piazza Navona. On Yuletide it is a tradition for Romans (and increasingly for italians) having a walk between Christmas gifts decorated newsstands.

Howth sightseeings/7

This shot of St Mary's church is creepier than the one on the previous post, isn't it?

Howth sightseeings/6

St Mary's church, dating from the late 14th century, is the third of its kind in Howth.

The construction is surrounded by an open to the public graveyard, still in current use.
